THE WITCH COOKS
LOVE IN THE POT
FEEDS ON HERSELF
BECOMES STRONGER

Sonya Vatomsky, GROUNDMEAT, 2015

In the book 'Witchcraft', Pam Grossman affirms that "when I define myself as a witch, I do it aware of the burden of persecution, which, over centuries, has oppressed whoever was considered a threatening outsider. At the same time, I consciously connect with an archetype energy, made of magic, mystery and Devine femininity".
This is the witch, a wise woman, cultured and of great knowledge, caregiver and ‘daughter’ of her time’s needs, until monotheist religions, the Christian Church upon others, have had imposed their patriarchal concept of society.
Therefore, the witch becomes a woman who challenges structures of power, who takes position against them, who fights for feminine education, thus persecutions begin: even in XV century, the witch’s stereotype, as responsible of disease and disasters, was already clear, being this cliché based on centuries of Christian sexism, dated back to Eva herself, guilty of the fall of mankind.
Due to print invention, the Christian Church moulded public opinion about witches, including in the collective imaginary sex with the Devil, damage to women in labor, threats to fertility and so on, aiming to central issues in female life experiences.
Nowadays persecutions have changed, shift-shaped, but never disappeared: in our society, always patriarchal and infused with christian dogmas utterly difficult to be dismantled, the witch is now the woman herself, minorities and, as per before, the outsiders.

MALEFICIUM is a scream of fighting and protesting, risen from us outsiders, to claim our right to simply exist, think and express ourselves. It is an helping hand to women’s rights and their fights all over the world to equality and justice, to the concrete possibility to change this society for the better, to fight patriarchy and the belief there are Serie A and Serie B citizens.

The collection focuses on five ancestral witches:
EVA: accused of having cursed mankind.
DIANA: Mother Goddess, knowledge keeper and guardian of hunting.
ISIDE: portrayed with boar teeth’s crown, half moon shaped, she is the image of motherhood devotion, Goddess of magic, wisdom and the sky.
ECATE: Goddess of magic and crossbreed, she is the powerful mistress of darkness, she reigns upon evil demons, the night, the moon, ghosts and the dead.       She was worshiped in Ancient Greek as protector of the family, associated with lunar cycles, mostly the Waning Moon.
THE MOON: the female creative principle, childhood, femininity, the woman, the mother, sleep and dreams. The Moon symbolises the Mother Goddess and her power, given to women in its triplicity, without which knowledge could not exist.

All the jewels follow Sans Soleil’s guide lines being genderless and/or cross gender, they are handmade from local artisans in silver.
Stones used in the collection are rhinestones, natural pearls, onyx and carnelian.

As per usual, part of the income will be donated to CASA DELLE DONNE, which operate in order to give aim to women in difficulties, victims of violence and offers training courses to avoid violent and/or discriminatory behaviour.
